A day of firsts:
First time my girlfriend’s dad trusted me to drive his truck (Super Duty on the left).
First time teaching manual transmission (in that FoST right there).
First time my girlfriend has driven a manual car (she’s 24).
My girlfriend did pretty well once her mom shut up and quit back seat driving (and giving horrible advice; my girlfriend finally yelled at her). Aside from some of that bad advice, she did good. She only stalled twice and missed a gear once. Not bad for her first time.
The CX-5 is my girlfriend’s sister’s car. They both drive Mazdas.

Teaching someone to drive stick is one of the best things you can do.

Doing my part. People rarely have the opportunity to learn in the U.S. (manuals are rare, people willing to let those with no experience drive them are even rarer), so there are that many fewer people that can drive them. The less people that can drive manuals, the less manuals will be bought, which means they’ll be harder to find.

A buddy of mine who drives a Prius said to me the other day that “I kinda want to have a fun beater car again(he used to have a Suzuki Esteem wagon, and briefly a Samurai before that), and I should learn to drive stick. Maybe I’ll get an old manual pick up or something.” I was like “DO IT DO IT DO IT! I’ll teach you myself!”
